About
History of the RiverWalk Adult Skate Camp
RiverWalk Adult Skate Camp was created by three friends who saw a need for a safe space for Adult skaters to gather, learn and share their love of skating. Heidi MacDonald, John Mucko and Elin Schran thought The Rink at RiverWalk was the perfect spot to make this idea come to life. The Rink at RiverWalk was the only rink of its kind in the USA. Utilizing 15 miles of tubing filled with glycol to freeze the water in RiverWalks Lagoon Pool was a magical feat! (fun fact, Tenley Albright calls RiverWalk "MagicLand") The first Camp was held March 2017 with guest coach Olympic Silver Medalist Peter Carruthers.
The first Camp was small but as predicted, it was magical! However, Mother Nature was not always cooperative causing ice conditions to be less than ideal so a day of ice was added at Plymouth State University in 2018 and eventually all on ice sessions have been held at PSU.
Randy Gardner joined the coaching team in 2018 and stayed until 2024! RiverWalk Adult Skate Camp has welcomed many wonderful coaches including Nancy Kerrigan, Liz Manley, Ron Kravette, Douglas Webster and our current team of Kurt Browning and Alissa Czisny. John Mucko and Heidi MacDonald continue to work together as directors of RiverWalk Adult Skate Camp.
While skating outdoors in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire truly was a magical experience, unfortunately the rink caused damage to the pool over the years and it has been closed since 2022.
RiverWalk Adult Skate Camp is open to skaters of all levels who are 21 years or older.
